Week 1: Seahawks 9, Lions 6 - Suck It, Peter King (full story)

The Seahawks overcame a subpar offensive performance, an improved (at least in appearance) Detroit D-line, inconsistent officiating, and Peter King's "upset special" prediction to beat the Lions 9-6 on a last second Josh Brown 42-yard field goal.

I have 3 questions after it is all said and done (and I only watched most of the second half):

1. What the hell is wrong with Ken Hamlin? When you go to make a tackle, you HAVE YOUR ARMS OUT TO WRAP UP THE BALLCARRIER, not have your arms pressed to your sides trying to imitate a missle. Several times the Hammer gave the Detroit ballcarrier a shoulder shot (and the ballcarrier bounced off of him and proceeded to gain several more yards), instead of wrapping up and taking the guy down.

2. Why does Mike Holmgren call a running play to the left every time he tries to set the offense up for a last second field goal? Am I the only one that notices that the vast majority of Josh Brown's field goal attempts hook to the left? Wouldn't the right hashmark be a more logical place for Josh to kick from?

3. Can the officals please, PLEASE call roughing the passer more consistently? How come you can call it on Jordan Babineaux for "helmet to the back" (the replay clearly showed face mask to the shoulder) a half second after Jon Kinta threw the ball, but not call it on a Detroit DT for shoving Matt Hasselback to the turf three seconds after the play was blown dead??? Babs' hit on Kitna didn't do any damage, but the shot that Matt took shook him up. You could see him grimace and grab at his chest. Also KC's Trent Green got carted off after he was smeared while sliding feet first, but no flag was thrown. Protect the QBs or let them get turned into hamburger, JUST DO IT CONSISTENTLY!

To conclude, I have to give a lot of credit to the defense (even to my adoptee J-Pete, despite him letting a fumble slip through his fingers), but the offense needs to get it together so they can give the Cardinals a proper welcome to Qwest Field next week. (and by a proper welcome, I mean putting up 30+ points)
